Despite the charisma of political leaders, Biblical people were right in separating political and spiritual leadership. The insights of Paul Tillich from the 1930's and 40's are relevant today. It explains the gap between unrealistic expectation and angry disappointment that experienced in just a single year or two for a new incumbent for political office. Political leaders are not ... and cannot ... be spiritual leaders. And it is a mistake often made when society lacks spiritual depth.

"Organic" leaders are different from "Constant" leaders because they embrace purposeful change and reject heritage protection. They accept and engage the post-Christendom world, rather than try to preserve or recover the Christendom world. They are not in confrontation with culture, but rather in conversation with culture.

A number of people have asked me how one translates the theology of spiritual leadership into a meaningful devotion. All spiritual leaders practice some kind of discipline (i.e. spiritual practice or habit). Such disciplines are especially helpful in times of stress. Here is mine. Developed over the past 30+ years. And this is indeed a time of political, economic, relational, and spiritual stress.
